Mothers, Babies and Children

The life of a mother is the life of a child:
you are two blossoms on a single branch.

Craniosacral Therapy For Expectant And New Mothers
Craniosacral Therapy is recognised for its effectiveness in helping women in pregnancy, new mothers and for many of the ailments of young babies and children.
Craniosacral Therapy can help ease backache, improve digestive problems of pregnancy and give the expectant mother much-needed relaxation. Receiving Craniosacral Therapy treatments during pregnancy can help prepare the body for labour and birth, potentially leading to a smoother, less painful experience. It can help address physical imbalances, reduce tension, and promote relaxation, all of which can be beneficial for supporting the body's natural labour process.
Craniosacral Therapy can also be beneficial postpartum, helping the body recover from the physical and emotional stress of labour and birth - especially if the birth process was traumatic for the mother and/ or baby. Craniosacral Therapy can help with various difficulties including persistent pain, exhaustion, post-natal depression or any anxieties with being a first time mother. It can help with overall nervous system regulation for both mother and baby.
Craniosacral Therapy For Babies
Parents commonly bring their baby for Craniosacral Therapy in the first weeks following birth to help with the integration of the birthing process, even if the pregnancy and birth felt trouble free -
as even a smooth birth can place pressure on a baby's head, neck and spine.

If a baby or child had a stressful birth, Craniosacral Therapy can help relieve associated tensions and symptoms, either soon after the birth or in later years. It can also be effective in dealing with the effects of birth trauma on a baby - due to compressive forces exerted on the skull and / or due to the shock effects of a traumatic birth. Factors like long labour, C-section, assisted birth (with forceps or suction) can all cause subtle strain patterns on the baby's system.
Craniosacral Therapy can also offer support to the baby for:
- regulating the nervous system
- developing good sleep patterns
- easing tension in their head, neck and jaw
- establishing and supporting breastfeeding
- early feeding problems and allergies
- torticollis (wry neck)
- promoting relaxation
- bonding with parents and siblings
Parents also commonly bring their babies for Craniosacral Therapy treatment if they are suffering from ear infections, colic or other digestive problems or are restless and unsettled.
As the therapy is so gentle and non-invasive young babies can be treated whilst asleep, or feeding, or cradled in the parent's arms and older babies can be treated whilst they play with their parents and the therapist.
Craniosacral Therapy appointments are available for Babies only or as Joint Mother & Baby sessions and as either 60 minutes or 90 minutes sessions.
Craniosacral Therapy For Children
Children of all ages can benefit from Craniosacral Therapy as it is a nurturing and calming approach to childhood healthcare. Craniosacral Therapy can support a child recover from any falls and injuries they may encounter or aid recovery from persistent colds and infections. Many common behavioural, social and learning difficulties respond well to Craniosacral Therapy. It can help a child with their journey with dyslexia, learning difficulties, hyperactivity, behavioural disorders, epilepsy, autism, asthma, squint and cerebral palsy and a wide variety of other conditions. Parenting can be a challenge during the various stages of child development. Craniosacral Therapy has proved to be a valued resource for parents and their children due to the treatment process being so gentle and supportive to the physical and emotional needs of the individual child.
As a Craniosacral Therapist I am currently a member of the CSTA (The Craniosacral Therapy Association), IAIBCST (The International Affiliation of Integrated Biodynamic Cranio-Sacral Therapy) and registered with the CNHC (Complimentary & Natural Healthcare Council).
